Not for an iPhone or an iPad! (though there are probably some freebie apps for those devices too!)

While reading my Realtor Magazine, published by the National Association of Realtors, I came across this great free download application for taking inventory of your home. It runs on a PC or a Mac, yeah! I am an avid Mac user…

Keep track of everything from furniture, to jewelry, artwork– your original purchase price, its current value, upload pictures, add receipts, make notes, and more!

Get your belongings documented!

This serves a great record that’s helpful for determining how much insurance to purchase and could be key when settling insurance claims. You can print a report for hard-copy record and I suggest giving a copy of this to another friend or relative in case of an emergency and you are unable to get to your copy or computer file.

Check it out! I started my own record and found the application very intuitive. Let me know what you think!

Check-out:

IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Elizabeth Wheeler, 303-916-4359
historicgenie@aol.com

Denver’s Old House Society Announces Date and Location of 2011 Old House Fair

DENVER, Colo. (Aug. 4) – Denver’s Old House Society announces today that the 2011 Old House Fair will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Tivoli. Specifically for owners of houses at least 50-years old, the event includes workshops, exhibits and tours of the historic venue. The date was chosen to coincide with the 2011 Saving Places Conference, held by Colorado Preservation, Inc., February 2-4. The Society also announced the Old House Fair’s first sponsor is the University of Colorado Denver College of Architecture and Planning.

Location of the 2011 Old House Fair!

The Old House Fair attracts participants from throughout Denver, the metro area, Boulder, communities along the I25 corridor from Pueblo to Fort Collins, and mountain towns such as Estes Park and Evergreen. Workshops focus on enhancing energy efficiency, maintaining and restoring old houses, and appropriate design elements for specific architectural styles and eras. Exhibitors include companies that specialize in old houses and retailers and artists who cater to owners of Victorians, Bungalows, Denver Squares, Tudors and Mid-century Modern homes.
“It seemed only natural to have the Old House Fair the Saturday following the Saving Places Conference”, stated board chair, Suzanne Minear, AIA. “Our focus is educating owners of old houses, providing them with the knowledge and tools to save the most personal pieces of our past, our homes. We wanted to make sure the conference attendees, many of whom come from communities outside of Denver, had access to this information at a convenient time and location for them.”
“We sometimes lose sight of the preservation needs of historic homeowners when dealing with the ever-challenging task of protecting the historic resources across Colorado,” says James Hare, Executive Director of Colorado Preservation, Inc. “However, keeping historic houses in our neighborhoods, and keeping people living in them, is part of the foundation for historic preservation. We are very excited to be partnering with OHS to create a unique educational opportunity for participants at both the 2011 Saving Places conference and the OHS Fair”

The only organization of its kind in the state, Denver’s Old House Society is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to educating owners of old houses (50+ years old) and helping them protect their neighborhoods. Founded on Colorado Day, August 1, 2008, Denver’s Old House Society, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and works, in conjunction with local people and organizations, through educational and advocacy efforts.

Factory-built homes are gaining popularity among buyers who appreciate the speed with which they can be constructed as well as their discounted price – 10 to 35 percent less compared to stick built, according to the Manufactured Housing Institute.

One problem is the difficulty potential buyers have finding information and qualified builders. “We have not, as an industry, learned to promote our homes,” admits Vic DePhillips, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Building Systems Councils.

Some locales still aren’t accepting of factory-built technology, but increasing numbers of zoning boards have come to understand that finished factory-built homes look no different than stick built, says John Perry, chief executive of Contempri Industries Inc., a modular house manufacturer in Pinckneyville, Ill.

Denver Business Journal – By Mark Harden

Denver is the “most improved U.S. housing market,” according to a new report from Bloomerg Businessweek.

“In Denver, the economy and employment slowed just as other areas did during the recession, but things appear to be moving in the right direction this year,” the report says.

It says Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metro-area home prices increased 5.8 percent in the first quarter from the same period of 2009 as sales grew and distressed sales fell, based on data from CoreLogic of Santa Ana, Calif. And it cites research by Development Research Partners of Littleton forecasting a 5 percent boost in both home sales and prices in the Denver-area this year.

It also notes signs of the area’s reviving economy, including prospects of rising employment.

“An influx of renewable energy companies and the relocation of kidney care giant DaVita‘s headquarters to Denver from California in 2009 are expected to create jobs,” Businessweek’s Venessa Wong wrote. “In fact, about one in 25 employers in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area plans to add jobs in the second quarter, according to the most recent Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.”

The report lists 20 other improved U.S. housing markets. “It’s not just Denver. Signs of life have emerged in areas around the country—signs that the worst may have passed,” the report says.

After Denver, the most-improved markets in the report are:

2. Boston.

3. St. Louis.

4. Pittsburgh.

5. San Jose, Calif.

6. San Francisco.

7. Washington.

8. Cincinnati.

9. Minneapolis-St. Paul.

10. Milwaukee.
