Add-ons vs. Scrape-offs Around Denver
Carriage houses are all over Stapleton, so why not approve them for some of our Denver neighborhoods? They add value to the property, new character, work-live opportunities for some, and are a great place for an adult child who just won’t move away!
What do you think?
Add-ons vs. scrape-offs, an article from The Denver Daily News, (click here to read), reports that a recent draft of new Denver zoning code is allowing for carriage houses, but on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis. A group called Friends of Granny is pushing for the right to once again build carriage houses – 53 years after city officials stopped allowing the construction of accessory dwelling units. These structures are sometimes called carriage houses or granny flats. There are at least 3,000 carriage houses in the city, grandfathered in following implementation of the old code. “The whole reason we’re doing the zoning code updates is that we have one size fits all zoning in Denver,” said Julius Zsako, spokesman for Community Planning and Development.
